Structural Engineering
Structural design, certification and adequacy assessment delivered in-house by a PhD-qualified structural engineer. Because the engineering sits alongside the certification practice, structural questions get answered by someone who understands how they will be assessed.
What it is
Structural design certification confirms that the structural elements of a building — footings, framing, connections, bracing and tie-down — are adequate for the loads they will carry and comply with the relevant Australian Standards. It is required documentation for consent and permit applications, and it is often the item that holds an application up.
Where we work
We provide structural engineering in South Australia, the Northern Territory and Queensland. Requirements differ meaningfully between them — most obviously wind loading — so the design is prepared for the conditions that actually apply at your site.
Cyclonic design
Darwin and the coastal Top End sit in cyclonic Wind Region C under AS/NZS 1170.2. Region C changes tie-down, connection, cladding and opening requirements substantially, and a design prepared for a non-cyclonic region will not pass assessment there. We design and certify for both cyclonic and non-cyclonic regions.

Common questions
Can you do the structural engineering and the certification on the same project?
It depends on the jurisdiction. In the Northern Territory, yes — we can deliver both on the same project. In South Australia we cannot act as both the certifier and the engineer on the same project; it is a conflict of interest. Where we certify an SA project you engage a separate engineer, and where we do the engineering another certifier issues the consent.
Do you design for cyclonic regions?
Yes. Darwin and the coastal Top End are Wind Region C, and we design and certify for both cyclonic and non-cyclonic conditions.
Can you assess an existing building?
Yes. We carry out structural adequacy assessment of existing structures, including where a building is being altered, changed in use, or has visible distress.
