Building certification in the Northern Territory.
Territory building work is permitted under the Building Act 1993, with permits issued by registered building certifiers rather than council. We issue permits, inspect through construction and certify occupancy — across Darwin, regional centres and remote communities.
Building Permits
In the Northern Territory, building work requires a Building Permit issued by a registered building certifier before work starts. We assess the documentation, issue the permit, carry out the required inspections and certify occupancy at completion.

Common questions
Does my verandah or reroofing job really need a permit?
Yes. The Territory permits far more work than most people expect, including verandahs, reroofing and retaining walls over 600mm. Tell us what you are planning and we will confirm in writing.
Can work built without a permit be certified later?
No. There is no avenue in the Northern Territory to certify work that was carried out without a permit — the permit must be in place before the work is done.
Which wind region applies to my site?
Darwin and the coastal Top End are cyclonic Region C, which drives tie-down, cladding and glazing requirements. Inland Territory sites are not cyclonic. We confirm the region as part of the assessment.
